KCx Engineering was retained by Entity Mechanical LTD (M&E Contractor) as the Cx & TAB Agent for chiller replacement and expansion of the low carbon geo-exchange thermal energy system at Sechelt Hospital. The North Tower of the hospital was commissioned approximately 10 years ago and includes a low carbon geo-exchange system. Within the scope of this project, the south tower chillers were replaced with new heat recovery chillers combined to the North Tower geo-exchange system.

The Mechanical design was completed by Building Energy Solutions LTD. Combining the south tower thermal energy loads with the existing North tower infrastructure presented unique challenges from a commissioning and balancing perspective. The project also included a high temperature heat pump to preheat DHW to further offset the site GHG emissions. KCx Engineering continues to monitor this solution to fully optimize the facility by providing comfortable space conditions while minimizing equivalent carbon emissions.
