200 Granville

Project Detail

Located on the waterfront of downtown Vancouver, 200 Granville was built in the early 1970’s. The towers elevated core foundations were engineered using specialized peer-reviewed insight from Dr. Nathan Newmark, one of the most famous structural (and earthquake) engineers in history. Spanning 454 feet into the city’s skyline, it contains 30 structural floors, with 23 floors of office space rising cleanly above the downtown grade.

Goal of the project 

The 200 Granville heat recovery project, part of Cadillac Fairview’s portfolio decarbonization, uses heat recovery chillers to capture waste heat throughout the building, repurposing it for building heating. This heating source significantly offsets the carbon intensive district steam that is otherwise used to provide space heating.

How did KCx achieve goal

As established experts in commissioning and balancing of heat recovery systems, KCx Engineering lead the plant startup and transitioned the system to a fully integrated plant resolving energy flow and control issues for efficient and reliable control. KCx Engineering continues to support owner and project teams with onboarding additional heat recovery sources and optimizing building operations.
