Goal of the project
The project delivered a comprehensive heating and ventilation upgrade: a new boiler plant, new hot water distribution piping, new unit ventilators in each classroom, and a new DDC control system. Completed soon after the COVID-19 pandemic, the design incorporated enhanced outside air control strategies and pre-occupancy purge cycles reflecting heightened ventilation expectations for school environments. The goal was to verify that the new systems delivered reliable heating and ventilation while executing these control strategies correctly across every classroom.
How did KCx achieve goal
KCx Engineering performed all testing and verification across the new mechanical and control systems. With unit ventilators in each classroom tied to a new DDC system running enhanced outside air and purge sequences, correct sensor input was fundamental — control strategies of this kind are only as reliable as the data driving them.
During commissioning, KCx identified conflicts in sensor readings and traced their knock-on effects through the control system, where inaccurate inputs were influencing sequence behavior. Our team provided clear direction to resolve these issues, correcting the underlying sensor conflicts so that the outside air control and pre-occupancy purge cycles operated as intended.
The result is a fully upgraded heating and ventilation system with verified control performance, delivering reliable comfort and the ventilation strategies the project was designed to achieve.
