Goal of the project
With a replacement hospital under construction at the new St Paul’s Hospital Campus, the existing St. Paul’s facility must continue delivering care at the highest standard until the transition is complete — and in operating room environments, that standard is not negotiable. Providence Health Care retained KCx to test and verify compliance with the relevant CSA standards, auditing OR airflow conditions and reviewing the supporting mechanical infrastructure.
How did KCx achieve goal
KCx performed an initial audit of the operating rooms, measuring airflow conditions and reviewing the performance of the air handling units and terminal devices serving each space. That analysis identified several opportunities to improve performance and efficiency.
Our team then carried out a full recalibration of all terminal devices serving the respective ORs, making the adjustments where required for compliance with CSA standards. The work presented a significant logistical challenge: a full shutdown of the OR department was not an option, so the project required close coordination with both facilities and clinical teams to sequence the work, minimize disruption, and keep operating rooms available throughout.
The result is substantially enhanced system performance in the hospital’s most critical spaces — verified by measurement, not assumption.
