Goal of the project
This new-construction project delivered an all-electric institutional building with no gas connection, combining theological education space with student housing. Its mechanical systems reflect the fully electrified design: heat recovery ventilators with electric heat in every residential suite, a CO₂ heat pump domestic hot water system on the roof, and air-cooled VRF systems serving shared ground-floor spaces and electrical rooms. The goal was to commission these systems and verify that the all-electric design delivered reliable comfort and performance across the building’s residential and institutional spaces.
How did KCx achieve goal
KCx Engineering delivered commissioning for the project. Our team verified the suite-level heat recovery ventilators and electric heating, the air-cooled VRF systems serving the shared and electrical spaces, and the rooftop CO₂ heat pump domestic hot water system — a lower-carbon technology whose performance depends on correct commissioning to realize its efficiency.
KCx confirmed that each system operated as designed and that the control sequences coordinating them delivered appropriate conditions throughout the building. The result is measured verification that the all-electric design performs as intended — supporting the college’s education, housing, and community functions on a fully electrified basis.
